Chrysanthemums Fall Mums Water Tips
The Two Causes of Wilting (and How to Tell the Difference)

The Right Way to Water Potted Mums

-
Check Daily: Mums in full bloom, especially in small, root-bound pots, may need water daily or even twice a day on hot, dry, or windy afternoons.

-
Water Deeply: Water until you see it flow out of the drainage holes.

-
Avoid Wetting Foliage: Always water at the base of the plant or soak from the bottom. Wet leaves encourage the fungal diseases (like powdery mildew) that mums are prone to.

-
The Finger Test: Stick your finger about an inch or two into the soil. If it feels dry, it's time to water. If it still feels moist, wait.

-
The quick bottom-watering test may be less effective for mums planted in ceramic mixed planters compared to those in plastic pots. To improve watering success, especially in mixed ceramic planters, use a high-quality, organic potting soil. Furthermore, ensure you group plants with similar water and light needs within the same mixed planter.
