Phalaenopsis Care Essentials

Temperature

-
Year-Round: Keep the plant warm. Daytime temperatures should be between 70F and 85F, and nighttime temperatures must never drop below 60F.

-
Flowering Cue: To encourage flower formation, keep the plant cooler (around 60F for 4 to 6 weeks in the autumn.

Light

-
Provide mostly shade light, ideally near an east-facing window.

-
In summer, ensure it's shaded. In winter, it needs filtered, bright light—avoid direct sun exposure.
Water and Humidity

-
Keep the planting medium moderately moist year-round; it should never dry out completely.

-
Use soft, lukewarm water. Never water the center (crown) of the plant to prevent rot.

-
High humidity is essential. Set the pot on a dish filled with moist gravel or stones and spray the leaves often.

Fertilizing

-
Spring/Summer: Use a diluted 20-20-20 fertilizer regularly.

-
Autumn: Switch to a bloom booster fertilizer combined with cooler nights to trigger bud set.
Potting

-
Roots need plenty of air; avoid waterlogging.

-
Use a coarse, air- and water-permeable medium like fir bark (medium-grade) mixed with a small amount of peat, charcoal, or perlite.

-
Repot every 14 to 18 months into a pot only slightly larger than the previous one. Soak the new potting medium overnight before use.
