Planting Cover Crops
Seeding Process and Timing

1. Timing: Seed after you have harvested your main garden crops.

2. Soil Preparation: Till the old plant residue into the soil to add humus and prepare the seedbed.

3. Application: Use a drop spreader, broadcast spreader, or hand-broadcast the seed. For even coverage, make two passes at right angles to each other.

4. Coverage & Contact: Lightly rake the seed into the top 1/4 inch of soil. The seed must be covered and have firm contact with the soil for good germination.

5. Moisture: If seeding before all seasonal rains begin, water lightly and consistently until the seed germinates.
